DMX

Configuration

DMX configuration prepares the MotionOrb™ for use with a DMX controller. DMX configuration

involves doing the following:

• Activating DMX mode

• Selecting the DMX personality

• Selecting DMX address

• Setting the MS address

The MotionOrb™ has different DMX personalities for varying levels of control with

a DMX

lighting controller. The following sections describe how to configure the MotionOrb™

for use

with a DMX controller.

DMX Mode and

Personality

The MotionOrb™ has 4 DMX personalities as described below: The simplest one has 9

channels and does not have pixel mapping. The other 3 personalities are for pixel mapping.

There is a 165-channel, a 240-channel, and a 315-channel pixel mapping personality. Each one

is designed for a specific length of MotionOrb™.

The basic MotionOrb™ is 2 meters long and has 165 orbs, so it uses the 165-

channel DMX

personality.

To activate DMX mode and select the DMX personality, do the following:

1. Press <MENU> until Dmx shows in the display.

2. Press <ENTER> until DMX Mode shows on the top line of the display.

3. Use <UP> or <DOWN> until the desired DMX mode shows on the bottom line of the display.

4. Press <ENTER>. Dmx shows in the display.

DMX Starting

Address

When selecting a starting DMX address, consider the number of DMX channels needed for the

selected DMX personality. Choosing a starting address that is too high restricts

access to some

of the product’s channels.

The basic MotionOrb™ product uses either 9 or 165 channels, depending on the DMX

personality. The highest configurable DMX address in 9-channel personality is 504

. The highest

configurable DMX address in 165-channel personality is 348.

To set the DMX starting address, do the following:

1. Press <MENU> until Dmx shows in the display.

2. Press <ENTER> until Address shows on the top line of the display.

3. Use <UP> or <DOWN> until the desired DMX address shows on the bottom line of the

display.

4. Press <ENTER>. Dmx shows in the display.
